To perfect the understanding between the brain and the body--modeling is the ability to see something and repeat it. Learning a soccer move is often broken down to a series of instruction: "Head down, knee up,” etc. There are so many things to learn that it would be an impossibility to break down all techniques. Instead, mimicking or copying a complete motion or series of moves whole, allows you to pick up the "whole" move. Good moves have a life of their own, they are asking to be copied. Step number one is to watch high level soccer. MLS, European, world cup. Tape the games so you can rewind moves you want to imitate. But it doesn't stop there. You can learn from any game, anytime. As long as you are willing, as long as you pay attention you can always learn.
Once you have picked the movement you simply try to copy the whole move. Analyze your movement: How did it feel? Look at yourself from the outside in, how did it look? Don't break down the movement unless you are having trouble.
The more you copy (model) the more you will come to understand your body and it's movements, allowing you better body control and cleaner technique. Talented kids in other countries do this all the time, watching their favorite pros and that same afternoon trying to replicate it on the street with their buddies.
Follow these steps:
1-Watch it.
2-imagine yourself doing it
3-remember it
4-practice it
5-anaylize it
6-try it in training
7-practice it again
8-try it in a game
9-perfect it
10-repeat it
